South African Winner Adds Interest
Promising Aussie bred three year-old Karraar made it two wins from three starts when scoring easily at Vaal in South Africa on Thursday, providing an interesting update for his dam, who is now owned by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds. A homebred for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Shadwell, foaled and raised in Australia at Yarraman Park, Karraar beat older rivals to win over 1600 metres by two and a half lengths for the powerful Mike de Kock stable.
Karraar is a son of Shadwell’s Blue Diamond winner Reaan, who stands at Cornerstone Stud in South Australia, and is the second winner for metro winning Flying Spur mare Raquia, a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Mirrasolo from stakes-winner St Therese.
Raquia was on-sold earlier this year, bought by Paul Willetts for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds at the Inglis Broodmare Sale for $26,000.
She has since produced a colt by Charge Forward that is a real ball of muscle and is now in foal to Magic Millions winner Unencumbered, who has covered an outstanding book of mares in his first season for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.
