Meet the Team

Ashley Porter – Broodmare Manager

Ash has worked in the equine industry for the past 8-years. Originally from a sheep and wool background, Ash together with his wife Scarlett and young daughter Penelope run Vanoca Park Welsh Ponies.

Vanoca Park, situated in picturesque Avoca on 1,500 aches, is one of Australia’s most exceptional Welsh Mountain and Welsh Pony studs ad was established in 2003.

Possessing well over a decade of experience in selling, breeding and showing Welsh Ponies, Ash has travelled extensively with his equine show judging career, spending time throughout Australia, the United Kingdom and Europe working primarily with Welsh Ponies, mares and foals.  For the past 3-years Ash has been dedicated to his role of Broodmare Manager here at the farm.  His wealth of knowledge and skills compliment the team and operations at Three Bridges Thoroughbreds.

Ash’s calm demeanour, attention to detail and observant nature provides peace of mind for clients during the critical pre and post foaling care stages of our broodmare band. Working closely with our reproductive veterinarian.

A former Young Farmer of The Year award recipient (for the Ballarat region), Ash completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at The University of Melbourne’s Dookie Campus.  His mother and father reside in Avoca too and Ash also shares their enthusiasm of their White Suffolk Sheep Stud.

Interesting facts; Ash was the sole Australian to ever win the United Kingdom Welsh Pony and Cob Society Young, whilst he is also the youngest Australian to be an approved member of the United Kingdom and Australian Welsh Judges Panel.

Favourite things about the farm; “The property has beautiful big paddocks and the thoroughbreds are free to roam and grow naturally.  I really enjoy how the team works together.  There is a strong bond amongst us. Everyone gets in and gets the job done.  Each team member has their own story to tell and is equal.”
