Derby Hopeful Sold by Three Bridges
Breaking his maiden at his second start over 1600 metres at Kembla on Tuesday for the David Payne stable was three year-old High Chaparral (IRE) gelding Doc Holliday, a $180,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Nordic Breeding and Racing from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft.
Allowed to roll forward by Kerrin McEvoy to sit up in second place, Doc Holliday travelled smoothly throughout and hit the lead not long after turning for home.
Headed by runner-up Ritzy, a half-sister by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) to dual Group I winner Fiveandahalfstar, Doc Holliday found another gear and surged to the line to win by half a length in a tenacious display.
Doc Holliday is yet another highly successful pinhook for Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, bought by Paul Willetts for just $22,000 at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
He is the fourth winner for stakes-placed Danehill (USA) mare Fiammarosa, a full sister to Group I winner Shinzig and stakes-winner Strada from Group I STC Coolmore Classic winner Shindig.
Entered for the $1.5 million Group I VRC Victoria Derby on October 31, Doc Holliday will have his connections dreaming the Derby dream!
