$1.5 Million Colt Breaks Maiden
The most expensive yearling by ill-fated Street Cry (IRE) ever sold in Australia, blue-blooded colt Taaj opened his account at Gosford on Thursday for Team Hawkes and was one of two winners on the program sold by Three Bridges.
Unplaced at his first three runs, Taaj appreciated a drop in grade and step up to 1600 metres to score a three-quarter length win over older rivals.
Taaj was a $1.5 million Inglis Easter purchase from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft for Emirates Park and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum.
Bred by Gilgai Farm, Taaj is the second winner for Star on High (USA), a half-sister by Fusaichi Pegasus to Group I winners Peeping Fawn and Thewayyouare.
Star on High’s dam Maryinsky was in the news recently when her yearling filly by Fastnet Rock sold for $1million at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, so it’s a family held in high regard right around the world.
Making it a double for Three Bridges graduates was promising Starcraft three year-old Dorf Star, who scored over 1200 metres for the Clarry Conners stable.
A $60,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Three Bridges draft, Dorf Star has two wins and a second from six starts and is on the improve.
