Domesday Winner Cheered by Three Bridges

Promising two year-old Domesday gelding Kent opened his account at Canterbury on Monday for Godolphin, his victory also cheered by Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, who now own his dam.

The John O’Shea trained Kent was second at his first two starts, most recently when desperately unlucky at Newcastle when going down to stablemate Pecans in a controversial close finish.

He made amends for that loss with a strong finishing length and a quarter victory over 1550 metres as favourite.

"His run the other day was good,” said winning rider Brenton Avdulla.

"I knocked him off on the stablemate and I’ve got a bit of time for that filly, so I was quietly confident that with good natural improvement off that and out to the 1550m he’d be hard to beat and it worked out that way.

“He’s still got a bit to learn but he’s a quality colt and he’s with the right team.”

Kent is the first foal of metro winning Commands mare Malbun, whose dam is a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Guineas.

Malbun was on-sold by Darley in 2014 and then changed hands again last year when she was snapped up by Paul Willetts Bloodstock on behalf of Three Bridges for $40,000 at the Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale.

Three Bridges sold a weanling colt by Choisir from Malbun at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $80,000 and she was covered last spring by Unencumbered.
